Bombardier Double-deck Coach
Bombardier Double-deck Coach – модель двухэтажного пассажирского поезда, выпускаемого компанией Bombardier (чит.: Бомбардье́). Используется различными европейскими железнодорожными компаниями. История
История происхождения этих вагонов берёт своё начало с двухэтажных поездов, построенных фирмой WUMAG в Гёрлице для железной дороги Любек-Бюхен-Гамбург в 1935 году. Эти поезда были построенны по системе тяни-толкай, с кабиной машиниста с одной стороны поезда и управляемого из этой кабины локомотив на другом конце поезда. Unit 5. Double-deck train concept
The bilevel car (AE) or double-decker coach (BE) is a type of rail car that has two levels of passenger accommodation, as opposed to one, increasing passenger capacity. In some countries such vehicles are commonly referred to as dostos, derived from the German Doppelstockwagen. Bilevel trains are claimed to be more energy efficient, and may have a lower operating cost per passenger.
The height of the cars can limit their use, especially in countries with low loading gauge. In some countries such as the UK new lines are built to a larger than standard gauge to allow the use of double-deck trains in future. The high passenger capacity can create flow and problems at train stations when much larger numbers of passengers try to board or get off at the same time.
The double-deck design usually includes lowering the bottom floor to below the top level of the wheels, closer to the rails, and then adding an upper floor above. Such a design will fit under more bridges, tunnels and power wires (structure gauge). For cost and safety, this design also minimizes car height and lowers the centre of gravity.
In 2012, a prototype double-decker rail carriage was made at the TVZ Tver Carriage Building Factory for the RZD Russian Railways company. This prototype carriage is a sleeping car with four-berth compartments and a total capacity of 64 passengers. Russian Railways ordered double-decker sleeper carriages from Transmashholding for the Adler-Moscow train service.
Transmashholding is expected to begin the production of 160 km/h double-deck trainsets for inter-regional services in 2014, with the first trains used on routes from Moscow to Tver, Yaroslavl, Vladimir, Ryazan, Tula and Kaluga.
Each train will comprise between six and 12 double-deck coaches from TMH’s Tver works. According to TMH, the height of double-deck stock means there would be no roof or under-floor space for the electrical equipment needed for an electric multiple-unit. The air-conditioned coaches will have three classes, business class featuring seat-back entertainment systems, standard class having a 2+2 seating arrangement and economy class 3+2. There will also be wheelchair facilities, a snack bar, space for bulky luggage and CCTV.

Description
How are ratings calculated?
Ratings are calculated using Evan Miller’s method (based on a Wilson score confidence interval) that is self-correcting. This means that the % of positive ratings & number of ratings decide a mods position on the top charts. The benefit of this approach is a mod with 2 positive ratings will not outrank one with 10 positive ratings but 2 negative. Nor will a mod with tons of rankings outrank everything unless most of the ratings are positive.
Rating levels
Ratings range from overwhelmingly positive to overwhelmingly negative. The color changes depending where on the scale the mod fits.
High-Saddle compatible trailer with 8-slot capacity: packable 4-slots on lower level and loose 4-slots on upper level. Double decker style. Can be configured as a road-train with «extension» trailers (no winch).
Theoretically you could have an infinite number of trailers in the train.
Practically you can only have two. But you still have your winch for normal use, so that’s good.

Pretty much: don’t be drunk when operating the trailer «powered constraints».
Please note: the extension trailers will «pop-out» of their socket when the hitch-angle is too great: just be conscious of this and everything will work out. If this happens to you when you’re out on a delivery, usually just using the front trailer’s winch sockets (at top of trailer) is sufficient to re-seat the «pin» in «hitch».

The extension trailers require a support truck to «attach» to the side pole.
Once attached, the «extension» trailer can operate hitch, lift, packing/unpacking, etc.

TWINDEXX is a double-deck train that is specially designed by Bombardier Transportation for Swiss Federal Railways (SBB). The rolling stock was designed in response to SBB’s proposals to launch an intercity high-speed express train. The trains proved to be the feasible choice for long-distance intercity transport on SBB’s existing routes with short platforms.
The train set provides excellent flexibility with its high capacity and easy-to-customise features. An added advantage is its compatibility to be operated with the double-deck engines of previous generations. Another special feature is its dual functionality to be operated as an EMU and as a locomotive.
TWINDEXX is successfully operated in countries such as Switzerland, Denmark, Poland, Germany, Luxembourg and Israel. Its operational speed is 160kmph to 189kmph, with a maximum speed is 230kmph.
In October 2011, Bombardier won the prominent «Tell Award» of Switzerland for its efforts in developing TWINDEXX trains and MITRAC propulsion and control system.
Design specifications of the TWINDEXX trains
The design specifications of TWINDEXX vary for intermediate coach and driving coach. The intermediate coach is 26.8m long, while the driving coach is 27.27m long. The coaches are, however, identical in height and width, which are 4,631.5mm and 2,784mm respectively. Entrance height above Top of Rail (TOR) for both the coaches is 600mm.
The train operates on 1,435mm (standard) gauge. Intermediate coaches have 121 seats, while driving coaches have 70 seats. Weight of the intermediate coach is 50t and that of the driving coach is 52t. Maximum axle load of both coaches is 18.3t.
Technology used in Bombardier’s double deck train TWINDEXX
The TWINDEXX trains consume 50% less energy than other comparable vehicles. This was achieved by using ECO4 technology and FLEXX Tronic WAKO system bogie technology, both developed by Bombardier.
FLEXX Tronic WAKO system is a part of Bombardier’s FLEXX Tronic bogie platform. The technology eliminates passive steering and suspension elements, which were the main drawbacks in the previous generations.
New functionalities such as active radial steering (ARS), active comfort improvement, tilting, bogie stabilisation and intelligent condition monitoring were included in the new car sets. These modifications enable higher trains speeds on curved tracks thereby reducing the train delays.
Three of ECO4 technologies namely MITRAC Permanent Magnet Motor, ThermoEfficient Climatisation System and Energy Management Control System were included in the TWINDEXX trains.
The MITRAC Permanent Magnet Motor reduces energy consumption and improves engine efficiency. It has an embedded motor cooling facility.
The ThermoEfficient Climatisation System also saves the energy consumption by its intelligent and flexible interior climate system. It manages to save up to 30% of the energy consumed for the cabin climatisation.
The Energy Management Control System offers a tool by which the operator can control the energy consumption depending on the prevailing conditions. These technologies improve the train’s performance, save 10% of total energy consumption and limit the CO2 emissions.

TWINDEXX variants
Bombardier is marketing TWINDEXX in two variants namely TWINDEXX Express and TWINDEXX Vario.
SBB was the first TWINDEXX Express customer. The variant can run at 230kmph. It is available in four, eight and 16-car configurations. The maximum drive power for an eight car train set is 7.5MW and overhead line voltage is 15 kV/16.7Hz. Door width for the variant is fixed at 1,400mm. The cars of the variant can also be used as cargo compartments, business compartments and trolleys for at-seat service.
Deutsche Bahn was the first customer for TWINDEXX Vario. The variant can travel with speeds ranging from 160kmph to 189kmph. It can be used as an EMU and Diesel Unit. It works on a 15kV/16.7Hz overhead line voltage with maximum acceleration of 0.6ms-2 to 1.2ms-2.
Maximum drive power of the variant is 2.3MW per motor cab. The lengths of control car, driven control car and intermediate car are 27.3m, 25.3m and 26.8m respectively. The widths of the doors are fixed at 1,300mm and 1,890mm for low entrance and high entrance respectively.
Features of the TWINDEXX trains
The TWINDEXX Vario comes with both low and high floor entrances, which enhances the accessibility of the passengers. The upper level decks can be accessed by means of brightly lit staircases. The advanced sliding steps will be of great advantage to people with reduced mobility.
All the car sets are air-conditioned and come with many optional features such as electronic seat reservations and seat numbers, reading lights, external loud speakers and mobile repeaters. Large-sized windows let in natural light to reduce artificial lighting by energy saving LED lights.
The high-speed TWINDEXX Express features wide entrances and illuminated stairs, huge baggage and bicycle luggage slots, comfortable first and second-class seating, on-board family restaurant, wireless internet access, electronic information system, closed circuit television, emergency call system and power sockets for mobiles and electronic devices.
The trains are designed to be pressure resistant, which eliminates ringing in ears due to pressure waves that are produced when the train is propagating in tunnels.
Orders and deliveries
In December 2008 a framework agreement was signed between DB and Bombardier Transport. DB placed a number of orders with Bombardier as part of this agreement.
A €362m ($483m) contract was placed in January 2011 for the supply of 137 Twindexx 2010 coaches by the end of 2013, as part of the agreement. In December 2011, 18 Twindexx Vario train sets were ordered additionally in a contract worth €34m ($44m).
In March 2012, a €160m ($210m) contract for supply of 16 four-car EMU’s was awarded by DB. These orders are expected to be delivered by 2014.
In October 2012, four and five-car EMUs were ordered in a contract worth €50m ($65m). These are scheduled for delivery by 2014.

Double-deck trains launched on Kazan – Moscow – Kazan route
(Kazan, KZN.RU, June 2, by Zilya Gayfi) A new double-deck train serving the Kazan – Moscow route has been launched in Kazan. Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin took part in the launching ceremony.
Kazan became the third city in Russia where double-deck trains started running. «Double-deckers appeared only a year ago, and until today, they ran from Moscow to St. Petersburg and Adler. Today, they started operating on a daily basis from Kazan. I think eventually double-deck trains will be running across Russia. The next step will be the launch of high-speed trains,» said Tatarstan’s Minister of Transport and Roads Lenar Safin.
Double-deckers are a new type of cars operated by the Federal Passenger Company and manufactured using new technologies, equipment and eco-friendly materials. All cars are equipped with air conditioning and heating; bio-toilets, which can be used during train stops; convenient staircases with handrails; energy-saving LED lights; sealed, rigid passages between cars; compartments for people with disabilities and wheelchair lifts; video surveillance systems; monitoring; access control and passenger protection. New brand-name double-deck cars provide greater comfort and spaciousness.
According to Ilsur Metshin, double-deck trains will attract new tourists. «This is a significant event for me as a mayor and for passengers. Double-deck trains ensure a restful trip. They are also an additional tourist attraction of our city. In such circumstances, more people will come to visit us and leave in high spirits,» said the mayor, thanking the administration of the Kazan section of the Gorky Railway and the Ministry of Transport and Roads of the Republic of Tatarstan for their cooperation.
